Brake fluid is an extremely important type of lubricant used in the hydraulic brake and clutch systems in most cars, motorcycles, and light trucks. It's used to transfer energy from braking force to the increased pressure, and to maximize braking power. It works on the basic principle that fluids are not appreciably compressible, so it must be balanced with the pressure. This means that if there is too much pressure, then the fluids flow will slow and if there is too little pressure, then the fluids flow will be increased. A good way to determine the proper amount of brake fluid that you have in your car or truck is to add a bit of water to the tank.
